Forms & Preps
Nothing to eat or drink after midnight, or for 8 hours preceding
the exam.
ULTRASOUND OF THE PELVIS, PREGNANCY (1ST TRIMESTER), URINARY BLADDER:
Empty bladder, then drink 32 oz. of clear liquid (non-carbonated)
1 1/2 hours prior to time of appointment. All of the liquid should
be finished 1 hour before so that your bladder will be full for the
study. DO NOT go to the bathroom until the test is completed. Note:
For pregnancy in 2nd or 3rd trimester reduce liquid to 20 oz.
CT or MRI OF THE ABDOMEN/PELVIS:
Nothing to eat or drink (except medications) 4 hours prior to appointment.
For CT you will need to obtain oral contrast and instructions at
our office at least 24 hours prior to your appointment.
BARIUM ENEMA / IVP:
1. Liquid diet for 24 hours prior to exam.
2. 1 - 10 oz. bottle of citrate of magnesia at 8:00 pm the night
before the exam.
3. 1 - 8 oz. glass of water every hour between 8:00 pm and 12 midnight
(total of 5 glasses).
4. 4 - Dulcolax laxative tablets at 10:00 pm the same night.
5. Administer a Fleets enema at 6:30 am according to the instructions
on the package.
6. Nothing to eat after midnight and nothing to drink after 7:00
am on the morning of exam.
Exception: Oral medication may be continued with a few sips of water
MAMMOGRAM:
Do not use any deodorant, powder or cream to the underarm or breast
area on the morning of your procedure. Please bring all previous
mammograms and their corresponding reports with you. Patients who
have had recent surgery should bring films that were taken before,
during and after their surgery. If possible, please obtain and bring
a copy of your pathology report. |
